Exhibit Your Heart Out

Food exhibit

Event: The Photography of Modernist Cuisine

Location: Pacific Science Center

After-Exhibit: Best. Lunch break. Ever. I have been dying to see this exhibit, so I decided on this sunny day to take a stroll over to the Science Center and finally check it out. I rarely do things like this by myself – but I actually very much enjoyed being alone and strolling through the exhibit. It showcases blown up images of food. My kind of exhibit. It reminded me a bit of the food exhibit I saw while in New York last year, except this was just raw images of food, nothing else. I saw close up shots of steak, blueberries, steamed cabbage, sandwiches, burgers, ice cream, the whole gamut! I was in Foodie Heaven! They also included props which consisted of kitchen appliances cut in half. It was amazing seeing all of the gears that go into blenders, ovens, and grills. They had a television that I watched for about 10 minutes because all they were showing were slo-mo videos. Cream being poured into coffee, jello bouncing on a counter, an egg being crushed. Mesmerizing. The exhibit was a lot larger than I was expecting – they had separate rooms for different classes of food. Fruit, vegetables, junk food, meat. Mmmmm, I loved the pictures of all the different meats. I walked out of the exhibit a happy (and hungry) girl!

Imagine Your Heart Out

Imagine Dragons

Band: Imagine Dragons

Location: Key Arena

After-Jam: Imagine Dragons has been one of my favorite bands for a while now, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see them while they were in town. I’ll never forget – a couple years ago my friends and I were riding over the Pass to go floating and my friend Derek decided to play “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons. The moment I heard it, I was hooked and knew that I wanted the entire album. Some of my favorite songs of all time are “Radioactive” and “Top of the World.” I saw them perform at the Showbox SoDo before – this venue was a little better just because it was more intimate. But we decided to do General Admission – this is always risky for me since I’m so short! But I had a decent view, and they had great videos on the screen, so even when the tallest person in the building was standing in front of me, I still had something to look at. It was just very special to be there with the people that I first heard them with. What can I say? I get a little sentimental sometimes… They did a great job and I was jammin’ out the entire time. Seattle just came off the Super Bowl win, so I think all of us were waiting for the lead singer, Dan Reynolds, to give a shout out, which he did….but it was a little odd. He said, “I’m not really into football and don’t pay much attention to what’s going on. But I guess if I were a football fan, I’d root for the Seahawks…” Wait, what?? The comment was a little weird, but it still sparked the loudest cheers of the entire night. Imagine Dragons was coming fresh off their Grammy win as “Best Rock Performance,” so the energy was palpable. The wave broke out during the concert, which is always fun to be a part of. My favorite moment was when everyone turned on their cell phone flashlights and the entire arena looked like the night sky full of bright stars. Just wish these concerts weren’t on weeknights! This girl likes being in bed by 9:30!!

Dash Your Heart Out

Valentine's Daash

Race: Love ’em or Leave ’em Dash

Location: Greenlake

After-Dash: Can you believe it?? It’s been exactly a year since my first official race! I certainly can’t believe it… Especially because I’ve completed a few different races during this year. I’m actually paying money to run. What? Who am I?? ¬†Last year at this race, my friend Zack came to support me because I was so nervous. This year he decided to run with me!! Well, not with me – he’s way fast. I was far faaaaar behind him. My goal when I run in any 5K is to not walk. I’ve failed on that goal once, but not this race!! I ran the whole thing and was very proud of myself. This is a great 5K to do if you’re just getting into running – no hills and it’s just one loop around the lake. If I can do it, trust me, you can do it too. :) The good news is that I beat the giant Hershey’s Kiss and the “runaway brides,” I did not beat the man that was BAREFOOT. What?? What a machine! The weather was perfect and there were so many people covered in pink and red. I wonder how many races I’ll sign up for THIS year?!

Celebrate Your Heart Out

Heisman Balloons

Event: Super Bowl Championship Parade

Location: Downtown Seattle

After-Celebration: Damn! Talk about best week ever!!! To celebrate the Seahawks Super Bowl victory, the city held an kick-ass parade in their honor. Working at Fisher Plaza has its many perks, but to be at the start of the parade has got to be one of the coolest experiences ever. I had many friends come downtown and I struggled to decide where I should stake out for the parade. I’m short, so I knew that no matter where I ended up, I probably wouldn’t be able to see much. So I decided to join my co-workers on the 4th floor balcony, and I’m so glad I did! We had the most amazing view of the parade with the Space Needle in the background. There was pretty much no hope in actually working today – Seattle was buzzing and it felt like a National Holiday for us. The parade was wonderful – Lynch throwing out Skittles to everyone, Pete Carroll waving up at us, seeing the shiny Heisman Trophy with my own eyes (not to be confused with the Heisman balloons pictured above). There were thousands upon thousands of people; I can’t even imagine actually being in the parade! Seahawks deserved it – they brought so much happiness to their city!!

Check out the video I took of us starting the “Sea! Hawk!” cheer from the balcony! So cool!!

Rejoice Your Heart Out

Super Bowl champs

Event: Super Bowl XLVIII

Location: Downtown Seattle

After-DOMINATION: We did it!!! SEATTLE SEAHAWKS ARE SUPER BOWL XLVIII CHAMPS!!! What an amazing day!!! The game was spectacular, our Super Bowl party was a total blast, and the celebration was UNFORGETTABLE!!! I am on cloud 9 right now!!! What an amazing experience for our city! We had a ton of friends get together at a friend’s house and we had a ton of food, snacks, beer, cake pops – it was like Heaven. After the game we couldn’t NOT go out and celebrate, so we decided to hit up a bar nearby and it was so hilarious! The moment we walked into the bar, everyone just started shouting – the win just made us all so happy that you could just shout “Go Hawks” and everyone around you would start whooping and hollering. The bar was packed with happy Hawks – but some of us wanted to get even more involved. A few of us decided to head downtown to be in the thick of it. This is the first time we’ve ever won a Super Bowl, and we are here, in Seattle – essentially, we are a part of history, so we had to live it up the best way we could! So we drove downtown and along I-5, the most inconvenient thing happened. My tire blew out!!! It was pretty terrifying considering my car started shaking and smelling of burnt rubber. Luckily, I was able to exit and pull over. Even more lucky, I had two guy friends with me who put on my spare tire within 10 minutes. My heros! (Thanks, Dan and Jared!!) Honestly, this was the best time for me to get a flat tire (I mean, I’d rather never have one), but everyone was in such a good mood that we laughed it off and didn’t worry about it for a second! We made it downtown, walked to Pike Place Market, and it was absolutely surreal. There was an unofficial parade with cars honking their horns, people piling on top of them, screaming, drinking in the middle of the street. It. Was. AWESOME! We met up with some friends and just soaked it all in. This was truly one of the best days and nights Seattle has ever experienced. GO HAWKS!!!

NFC CHAMPS Your Heart Out

NFC Champs

Game: Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers – NFC Championship

After-Victory: NFC Champs, babyyyyy!!!! Talk about one of the greatest days of my life!!! I managed to score tickets through my boss (they didn’t hold a fake contest for me this time, so I paid [#worthit]). It was one of the greatest days of my life. That is not an exaggeration! The game was absolutely epic! We crushed the 49ers, had a half-time performance by Macklemore, and oh yeah….WE’RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!! The energy was through the roof, we all danced and celebrated with the band outside of the stadium. There was not a frown in sight!

Seahawks will be Super Bowl Champs – I can just feel it!!

Playoff Your Heart Out

Seahawks Saints

Game: Seattle Seahawks vs. New Orleans Saints

Location: CenturyLink Field

After-Win: Story Tiiiiiime!! I just want to document this story because it was one of the most special moments of my life. My boss is a HUGE sports fanatic and absolutely loves the Seahawks. This Seahawk season has been phenomenal, and we were always talking about it and we are convinced the Hawks are going to the Super Bowl. Well, the playoffs were coming to town and the tickets were going to be difficult to get. I attempted to purchase tickets when they went on sale and it was just about the most frustrating thing ever. I’m convinced there weren’t even tickets that went on sale….they kept saying they sold out “in 30 minutes.” I’m pretty sure it was more 30 seconds that they were gone. I was crushed, there was no way I was going to pay $300 to go to the playoff game. Well, my boss managed to get 4 tickets through his friend that works for the Seahawks. He was going to take his brother and then use the other two as an incentive at work. We had a few meetings about how the first Account Executive to bring in a $10K deal would win the tickets. I’m not going to lie, I was pissed. I’m not an Account Executive, so I wasn’t eligible. You see, there’s a bit of a back story here. I planned a huge client cruise for our sales department, and it takes months and months to plan. The cruise was a huge success and my boss told me he wanted to reward me for all my hard work since I didn’t go on the cruise. He said he’d get me Seahawk tickets as a reward. Well, this was the perfect time! But nope, he was going to give them to someone else. I was sad. A few days later and a couple meetings about the tickets later, someone had won them. My co-worker Michael won them and I was so let down. Michael already had season tickets so he was already going to the game! I was beyond frustrated because I knew he would sell the tickets for profit. Grrrrrr. Later on in the day, I received an e-mail from Michael.

Subject Line: 2 FREE HAWKS TICKETS
Body: This e-mail is going out to a select few individuals in the building. Whoever is the first person to my desk….

I got up and BOOKED IT to his desk!!! I saw that e-mail and thought this was my opportunity. He will be giving them to ME! I hugged Michael and shouted, “TICKETS! MINE! HAWKS! PLEASE!” or something along those lines! People started wandering over and shaking their head. A couple of my co-workers started asking if I read the whole e-mail. Whole e-mail? Wait, there was more? My heart started to sink. Finally, my co-worker said I was disqualified and I can’t get the tickets. I almost cried then and there. I did the walk of shame back to my desk to read the rest of the e-mail. “….Whoever is the first person at my desk at 4L30 gets 2 FREE HAWKS TICKETS. In addition, you are disqualified if you tell anyone or speak of it until the tickets have been handed to the lucky winner.”

Oh my god, I was beyond angry with myself. I was shaking my head, holding back tears, and I said that if one person comes over to my desk and says anything about this I would punch them. Yes, I was very angry. 20 minutes goes by and I can’t focus because I’m so distraught with myself. Michael and my boss wander over and they me a look and I just want to curl up in a ball. Michael throws the two tickets on my desk and says, “Mo, this whole thing has been a set up. You were going to give the tickets to you the whole time – we just wanted to fuck with you first!” OH MY GOD!!!! I started laughing, screaming, and crying at the same time! I was SO EXCITED! They know me so well – they knew I would only read part of the e-mail and disqualify myself because I get ahead of myself. I’ve never had anyone surprise me like that and construct some kind of faux-competition to award me with something. He only sent that e-mail t0 me but blind cc’d me so it would look like he sent it to many. Welp, I was just about the happiest person on the planet. The game was SO much fun and I took my best friend Lauren. Just to make everything sweeter, the Hawks won!!! Seriously, Super Bowl, here we come!!! THANK YOU, MICHAEL!!!
