Rejoice Your Heart Out

Super Bowl champs

Event: Super Bowl XLVIII

Location: Downtown Seattle

After-DOMINATION: We did it!!! SEATTLE SEAHAWKS ARE SUPER BOWL XLVIII CHAMPS!!! What an amazing day!!! The game was spectacular, our Super Bowl party was a total blast, and the celebration was UNFORGETTABLE!!! I am on cloud 9 right now!!! What an amazing experience for our city! We had a ton of friends get together at a friend’s house and we had a ton of food, snacks, beer, cake pops – it was like Heaven. After the game we couldn’t NOT go out and celebrate, so we decided to hit up a bar nearby and it was so hilarious! The moment we walked into the bar, everyone just started shouting – the win just made us all so happy that you could just shout “Go Hawks” and everyone around you would start whooping and hollering. The bar was packed with happy Hawks – but some of us wanted to get even more involved. A few of us decided to head downtown to be in the thick of it. This is the first time we’ve ever won a Super Bowl, and we are here, in Seattle – essentially, we are a part of history, so we had to live it up the best way we could! So we drove downtown and along I-5, the most inconvenient thing happened. My tire blew out!!! It was pretty terrifying considering my car started shaking and smelling of burnt rubber. Luckily, I was able to exit and pull over. Even more lucky, I had two guy friends with me who put on my spare tire within 10 minutes. My heros! (Thanks, Dan and Jared!!) Honestly, this was the best time for me to get a flat tire (I mean, I’d rather never have one), but everyone was in such a good mood that we laughed it off and didn’t worry about it for a second! We made it downtown, walked to Pike Place Market, and it was absolutely surreal. There was an unofficial parade with cars honking their horns, people piling on top of them, screaming, drinking in the middle of the street. It. Was. AWESOME! We met up with some friends and just soaked it all in. This was truly one of the best days and nights Seattle has ever experienced. GO HAWKS!!!

Soak Up The Sun Your Heart Out

Super Bowl morning

Location: Queen Anne

Before-the -Big-Game: TODAY IS THE SUPER BOWL!!!! Seahawks are about to play in a few hours and I am beyond antsy!! I had to kill some time, so I decided to visit my friend Danielle in Queen Anne. We went up to the roof of her complex and the view took my breath away. It is the most beautiful day in Seattle and I just have the most wonderful feeling in my body about this game. I’ve said it even before the season began: “This is OUR year.” I just know we’re going to pull through and become Super Bowl Champs! Cross your fingers!!!

Playoff Your Heart Out

Seahawks Saints

Game: Seattle Seahawks vs. New Orleans Saints

Location: CenturyLink Field

After-Win: Story Tiiiiiime!! I just want to document this story because it was one of the most special moments of my life. My boss is a HUGE sports fanatic and absolutely loves the Seahawks. This Seahawk season has been phenomenal, and we were always talking about it and we are convinced the Hawks are going to the Super Bowl. Well, the playoffs were coming to town and the tickets were going to be difficult to get. I attempted to purchase tickets when they went on sale and it was just about the most frustrating thing ever. I’m convinced there weren’t even tickets that went on sale….they kept saying they sold out “in 30 minutes.” I’m pretty sure it was more 30 seconds that they were gone. I was crushed, there was no way I was going to pay $300 to go to the playoff game. Well, my boss managed to get 4 tickets through his friend that works for the Seahawks. He was going to take his brother and then use the other two as an incentive at work. We had a few meetings about how the first Account Executive to bring in a $10K deal would win the tickets. I’m not going to lie, I was pissed. I’m not an Account Executive, so I wasn’t eligible. You see, there’s a bit of a back story here. I planned a huge client cruise for our sales department, and it takes months and months to plan. The cruise was a huge success and my boss told me he wanted to reward me for all my hard work since I didn’t go on the cruise. He said he’d get me Seahawk tickets as a reward. Well, this was the perfect time! But nope, he was going to give them to someone else. I was sad. A few days later and a couple meetings about the tickets later, someone had won them. My co-worker Michael won them and I was so let down. Michael already had season tickets so he was already going to the game! I was beyond frustrated because I knew he would sell the tickets for profit. Grrrrrr. Later on in the day, I received an e-mail from Michael.

Subject Line: 2 FREE HAWKS TICKETS
Body: This e-mail is going out to a select few individuals in the building. Whoever is the first person to my desk….

I got up and BOOKED IT to his desk!!! I saw that e-mail and thought this was my opportunity. He will be giving them to ME! I hugged Michael and shouted, “TICKETS! MINE! HAWKS! PLEASE!” or something along those lines! People started wandering over and shaking their head. A couple of my co-workers started asking if I read the whole e-mail. Whole e-mail? Wait, there was more? My heart started to sink. Finally, my co-worker said I was disqualified and I can’t get the tickets. I almost cried then and there. I did the walk of shame back to my desk to read the rest of the e-mail. “….Whoever is the first person at my desk at 4L30 gets 2 FREE HAWKS TICKETS. In addition, you are disqualified if you tell anyone or speak of it until the tickets have been handed to the lucky winner.”

Oh my god, I was beyond angry with myself. I was shaking my head, holding back tears, and I said that if one person comes over to my desk and says anything about this I would punch them. Yes, I was very angry. 20 minutes goes by and I can’t focus because I’m so distraught with myself. Michael and my boss wander over and they me a look and I just want to curl up in a ball. Michael throws the two tickets on my desk and says, “Mo, this whole thing has been a set up. You were going to give the tickets to you the whole time – we just wanted to fuck with you first!” OH MY GOD!!!! I started laughing, screaming, and crying at the same time! I was SO EXCITED! They know me so well – they knew I would only read part of the e-mail and disqualify myself because I get ahead of myself. I’ve never had anyone surprise me like that and construct some kind of faux-competition to award me with something. He only sent that e-mail t0 me but blind cc’d me so it would look like he sent it to many. Welp, I was just about the happiest person on the planet. The game was SO much fun and I took my best friend Lauren. Just to make everything sweeter, the Hawks won!!! Seriously, Super Bowl, here we come!!! THANK YOU, MICHAEL!!!

Seattle Sunrise

Location: The Beautiful City of Seattle

After-Sunrise: There’s really not much to say in this post. All I can really say is that this was one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever witnessed. Seattle is amazing and I am so happy I live here. I feel incredibly lucky to have this view just a few steps away from where I work. I didn’t apply any filters to this photo – it is raw beauty. Thank you, Mother Nature. You make Seattle look so good.

Gramma

Location: Green Acres, WA

After-Stay: During my Christmas break at home, my family went out to visit my Grandma. It’s one of my favorite things to do. My Grampa passed away Christmas morning 4 years ago and it was one of the hardest days ever. When everyone else was waking up and getting excited to open presents, my family was in the hospital trying to come to sorts with losing one of the most important people in our lives. My Gramma is probably the most amazing human being I know. Her love with my Grampa was unreal – they were inseparable, they played in a band together (they would tour retirement homes…I’m not kidding), she never even learned how to drive because my Grampa drove everywhere. My Gramma is so strong and has such an inspiration for coming through with losing my Grampa. For a long time, my Gramma couldn’t even listen to music because it would make her too sad. But she’s come a long way – now it’s music that brings her peace and takes her to a place where she feels with my Grampa again. While I was with her on this day, I asked if she would play a couple songs and she was happy to do so. What’s amazing is she has a bunch of music books with timeless classics, but they don’t have music notes – they only have the lyrics. My Gramma uses the lyrics to remember the chords and it all comes back to her. It was amazing to watch! I snapped this picture and it makes me so happy. I love how it shows her doing what she loves most with her wedding band from my Grampa hugging her finger. It was a very special moment that I’m happy I have a picture of. Just thought I would share it with you. To me, this picture is happiness. :)

Ugly Sweater Party Your Heart Out

Ugly Sweater

Event: Ugly Sweater Party

After-Party: You know I mentioned in the post below (Meat Ball Your Heart Out) that Ugly Christmas Sweater parties are the most common kind of holiday party – well, here’s a perfect example of one! My friend Lillian throws an Ugly Sweater party every year, and they’re the best parties ever! Most of these parties involve friends and booze. But Lillian goes all out. She has a whole station just for bedazzling your sweater and making it even more ugly. She has a station where we write a Mad Lib to Santa and nominate someone for ugliest sweater. There’s of course food and booze, and lots of holiday music. The highlight of the party every year is the front room she empties out – sets up a Christmas tree, a bunch of props, and a camera tri-pod. She has the camera set on a self-timer, so during the whole night, people will go into the room and take a bunch of action shots. We get super clever and come up with fun dances, jumps, or action-sequences. The camera ends up with thousands of pictures (I’m not kidding) that Lil’ edits into an adorable video. At the end of the night, we all get together and she announces who wins the Ugly Sweater Contest – and this year I managed to come out with the W! I’ve had this ugly sweater for a few years now, and it’s so classic that I like to wear it each year. The front is just decked out with holiday decorations – there are bells, bows, a sled, Santa, elves, you name it. Ahhh, it really is the most wonderful time of year. So get to planning your next Ugly Sweater Party! Can’t go a year without one!!
